Advanced Gestalt Therapy Training

This advanced training is designed for students who have successfully completed the introductory training. This advanced Gestalt therapy training offers a series of two weekend workshops: one weekend in the fall, and one weekend in the spring, a total of 24 hours of in-person training. In these workshops you will learn theoretical and historical constructs of Gestalt therapy theory and learn practical application in triads and larger group experiences.

Participants will learn through:

  1. Readings, lectures, demonstrations
  2. Practice and supervision in triads and groups
  3. Experiential group exercises

At the end of these workshops, you will be able to define:

  • Gestalt theory of change
  • Resistance – Organismic self-regulation
  • Boundaries and contact styles
  • Tight therapeutic sequencing
  • Polarities: How to work with them
  • Unfinished business
  • Observation of process - what goes well
  • Client/Therapist I-Thou relationship

Additionally, this training will include two 1-hour teleconferences follow-up for all participants to discuss questions and provide assistance with theoretical and clinical application. This will add another two hours to the 24 hours of training experience – for attending individuals only.

“I have studied Gestalt Therapy with Helga for over ten years. Her workshops are engaging and personable. Each time I attend, I learn both personally and professionally. Helga is a life learner and she shares her acquired knowledge freely. Attending Helga's workshops keeps me on the cutting edge of the field. I have grown more than words can say - and the concepts of Gestalt Therapy through these workshops have permeated my being.”

“Helga Matzko is one of those rare educators who can synthesize complex theories, make them accessible to the uninitiated, and explore with her students how those concepts make sense and are applicable in their personal lives. My skills as a psychiatric/addictions RN have been enhanced and enriched by Helga's generous sharing of her knowledge and experience. She has grounded herself with solid education, training and supervision. Her credentials are impeccable but she has never rested on her laurels. She has a thirst for knowledge and she has a gift for sharing what she knows in logical, understandable language. In her trainings she combines the didactic with practical experiences of the theory presented. Learning with Helga is an experience; her students are active participants and are never bored. Helga is respectful of her clients while heightening their awareness to their strengths and potential. She works with them to identify and achieve their goals. As a health care professional, I wholeheartedly endorse her work. As a student and a client, I recommend her as an educator, a therapist, and a life coach.”

I've known Helga Matzko over the last fifteen years in a variety of professional relationships: as both an individual and a couples therapist, a consultant, as well as a fellow workshop instructor. She brings to all of these working relationships attentive listening skills, insightful comments, and a caring and open manner. She demonstrates a willingness to explore her work in new and creative ways, within a safe and supportive environment. I am proud to have her as both a personal and professional friend.
