You are not alone and your search is over.
Let me share with you everything I know about working with the addicted population.
When I initially began in this field in the early 1980’s, I was taught that addiction was a deadly disease and that AA was the saving grace. The illness concept and AA practices never made sense to me and even back then I had created positive addiction treatment programs that I taught nationally and internationally (If AA is useful to some, then it deserves to be recognized, however more than 80% of addiction-troubled individuals recover on their own or in different ways and only 25% of those attending AA become sober). In 2004 when I became a coach, I had the unique opportunity to transform my programs into coaching programs and as such, I held many successful trainings and I have written many eBooks on the topic.
Imagine the next time you are coaching a client with great potential but gets stuck on the illness concept “Once an Addict, always an Addict”. Here you are, able to help him discover that he is not sick at all but in his own way has created a life based on resilience, courage, and creativity (albeit not satisfying); and here he is now, sitting with you, smiling and feeling encouraged to discover how to use his strengths and become who he truly has the potential to become. How much more gratifying could this be for both of you?
Join the ground swell of interest and gratifying success in this positive approach as you gain mastery and respect in your coaching community and gratitude from your clients. I am convinced that you’ll feel enriched by the learning and application of this enlightening paradigm shift and realize the value of an alternative Beyond-Recovery coaching module - you just need to learn the What and How.
What Students Say...
“Being an individual who has experienced many years of bondage to life controlling substances and behaviors, this class has radically changed the way I view addiction and recovery. The strengths based model of addiction has caused me to greater acceptance of my past behaviors and experiences which has lifted my self-esteem tremendously. In addition, I am now able to help others discover their own strengths and become more aware of their body/mind experiences that will facilitate growth. A fantastic class and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to coach people through and beyond recovery.”

What Students Say...
Helga Matzko's course on Coaching the Addiction Recovered Client is an excellent resource for anyone who does coaching work with the addiction recovered population. It provides a new perspective on moving the addiction recovered client forward within the framework of a coaching relationship. The addiction recovered client is unique and usually comes into coaching with longstanding beliefs that come from the traditional 12-Step Programs and Treatment Centers. Helga's coursework and materials gives her students a new outlook on the traditional messages of the recovery community, and allows many of those messages to be re-framed and re-designed to allow for a truly fulfilling coaching experience with a very specialized community. While never detracting from what has worked in the past, Helga provides a fresh perspective and new ideas that can be incorporated with the traditional messages of the recovery community to allow both processes to work in harmony towards the clients' ultimate goals. The lessons learned in this course are both refreshing and invaluable for anyone who works with an addiction recovered clientele.”
